The presentation is scheduled for Thursday, April 10, at 10:30 AM in Room 410B at the Huntington Place Convention Center in Detroit, Michigan.

Jeremy Heerdink, Vice President of Business Development at Snowbird Technologies, will lead the presentation, offering an in-depth analysis of the SAMM Tech system’s performance during its deployment on a U.S. Navy amphibious transport dock in the summer of 2024. Installed on the deck of the USS Somerset, SAMM Tech was initially tasked with producing test components using laser-wire directed energy deposition technology for metal 3D printing. However, its capabilities were quickly leveraged to manufacture a critical replacement part for the ship’s reverse osmosis pump within hours of departure—a demonstration of the system’s ability to deliver rapid and reliable manufacturing solutions in austere environments. The presentation will explore the selection process, operational performance, and key lessons learned from this deployment, highlighting the advantages of additive manufacturing for naval and defense applications.
